The Elderflower Margarita

July 31, 2020

It was freaking 180 degrees out! But it was a dry heat. I had heard of Elderflower for drinks, many of which are made with Sparkling Wine, and/or Rosemary. I expected it to be a dry, more savory taste. Tena bought some and it turned out to be sweet and very refreshing!  For tonight’s cocktail I Googled Tequila, Elderflower Liqueur and Key Lime.  Elderflower Margarita Margarita’s popped up.  Oven on high hot outside and a Margarita, of course!!!

5 oz Jimmy Buffet Key Lime Tequila

3 oz St. Elder Elderflower Liqueur

2 oz Fresh Lime Juice (in this case Key Limes, yum!)

1 ½ oz Simple Syrup

Tejen for the rim of the glass

Rim the glasses with the cut lime and then the Tajin and then fill them with ice.

Fill a shaker with ice, add all the ingredients.  Shake until the shaker is to cold to hold and strain the contents into the glasses.

Jalapeno Mojito

July 31, 2020

Ok, it’s no secret by now I like Mojito’s.  That sweet Key Lime Rum with the refreshing taste of mint, what could be better! Add some spicy Jalapeno from the garden, to quote Emeril Lagasse, BAM!

½ a Jalapeno

10-15 Mint Leaves

4 oz Parrot Bay Key Lime Rum

1 oz Simple Syrup

Splash of Club Soda

Muddle Jalapeno and Mint in the bottom of a shaker.  Add Rum and let set 30 – 60 minutes, the longer it sits, the spicier the drink.  Add ice and Simple Syrup. Shake.

Pour into glasses and add a splash of Club Soda.  This is one of my favorites!!!

Jalapeno Cucumber Margarita

June 29, 2020

The one I made on this date I wasn’t to hip on, the one I made July 14 I was much happier with. I made them hotter with the jalapeno and the cool cucumber counteracted the heat.

½ to 1 whole Jalapeno

½ medium size cucumber

4 oz Jimmy Buffet Key Lime Tequila

3 oz Triple Sec

1 fresh Lime squeezed

1 oz Simple Syrup

Rim the glasses with lime and then sugar. Then fill with ice.

Muddle the Jalapeno and Cucumber with a small about of granulated sugar in a shaker.  Add the Tequila and let it sit for at least 30 minutes.  The longer it sits, the more the heat will infuse from the pepper. Fill the shaker with ice and the rest of the ingredients.  Shake your heart out and then pour into the glasses.  Garnish with a julienne slice of Jalapeno!

COVID COCKTAILS

It started on a night we just needed a Margarita.  I was working from home and Tena’s business had dropped off to almost nothing.  Every evening we found ourselves at home at 5:30 or so when we would normally either still be at work or stuck in traffic. Let’s have a cocktail…

I will say, I’m not a fan of hard liquor but I do enjoy making cocktails and am amazed how mixing just a few ingredients in small amounts creates a totally unique flavor.

Unless otherwise noted, the recipes are for 2 cocktails. They are listed in chronological order, most recent first.

Enjoy, and of course, enjoy in moderation.  “Everything in Moderation, including Moderation”.  R. Scott Hosie

The Blue Bullet

June 28, 2020

There were fresh Blueberries at the grocery store and it was a cold night (yes, even at the end of June!) so we were thinking a whiskey drink.  Tena found this recipe.  I wondered, Blueberries, Basil, and whiskey?  It was really, really good!

 Handful of Blueberries

8-10 Basil Leaves

Ice

4 oz Whiskey, in this case Tin Cup

2 oz Maple Syrup (from Maine of course!)

Juice from 1 Lemon

Place heavy glass Highball glasses in the freezer for 2-3 hours.

Muddle Blueberries and basil in a shaker, then fill it with ice.  Add Whiskey, Maple syrup and lemon juice.  Shake until the outside of the shaker is cold.  Pour into the glasses.  Garnish with fresh blueberries.

It didn’t look like much but man, it was good!!
